Mel, make sure that your search indexes are being updated. I just tested this in my own company file, entering an amount of $29.03, and the search found both the sales receipt and the deposit transaction for that amount.

Does the search function also search for amounts? I was looking for an amount, which was part of a deposit, and the search function did not identify it.

thank you.

Travis, I hadn't come back to this posting (from 2008) to update it about the QB 2011 feature, which I discuss in my article at http://qbblog.ccrsoftware.info/2010/09/quickbooks-2011-quickbooks-search/

Thanks for posting that link, useful to people with versions older than 2011.

One quibble - the new search feature is NOT instant - when you add transactions the index still must be refreshed. You won't see new transactions in the search, right away. How often it refreshes is set by a preference. I do think it is better, though.

Not sure how long it will be available, but Matt has uploaded the Keyword Search install files to his website:
http://matthart.com/uploads/keysearch_installer_13.exe

Matt says, "The version that's in QB 2011 is better in many ways. It searches more categories and is instantly searchable without the need to refresh the index. It was removed from IntuitLabs.com due to an accounting need."

Folks, as of this particular moment, Intuit doesn't have a working link to download this product. They have it on their web page, but the link to download it is broken. I'm hoping that they'll fix that broken link someday...

Thanks for the update, Matt! To clarify (because I was a bit confused) - the Keyword Search already worked for the US multi-currency version (QB 2009) - the change is that you are now supporting the Canadian Multi Currency special editions (2007 and 2008), and that you are working on support for the other Canadian versions, as well as the UK versions. The Canadian and UK versions of QuickBooks have been undergoing quite a few changes in the past couple of years, there are several variations and some are more like the US versions than others. From a software development standpoint it can be a bit confusing as Intuit moves towards making these all as similar as possible.

Update - I've created a version that should work with the Multi-Currency edition of QuickBooks, and I'm working on a version with works with CA and UK editions as well.

Thank you, Matt - I was able to get it to work with Vista with Service Pack 1 and QB Premier 2009, and I've updated the article to state that it can be done. THANKS!

I installed QB 2009 on a fresh copy of Vista and Keyword Search worked great. I suspect that the problem is browser permissions.

Try setting the "Local intranet" security permissions to "medium-low" - that's the Vista default.

Keyword search runs inside of an Internet Explorer "browser" window inside QuickBooks, and it has an ActiveX control on that browser page. That needs to be permitted by default, or add an exception (don't know offhand how to do that for an application, though).

Let me know if that works for you.

Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to check out Intuit Labs and some of the apps on it, and writing this great review! I just wanted to let you know that while there is a beta agreement in place, we do extensively test the software we put out there. The goal is to learn from customers what they want from the apps and how best to deliver it.

That said you can always email us at intuitlabs@intuit.com and for many of the apps the developers are on the page and can be contacted.

Thanks Again:
Jonathan Mandell
