Importing QuickBooks Transactions with Transaction Pro Importer

QuickBooks has a “closed” database – they control access to the data very tightly. While you have some limited ability to import list data (items, customers), it is generally difficult to import transaction data (invoices, checks). Today I’m reviewing an excellent tool that you can use to import transactions into QuickBooks (and lists as well), the Transaction Pro Importer from Baystate Consulting.

Review: Intuit PaymentNetwork

Intuit recently announced the Intuit PaymentNetwork, a low cost method of sending and receiving payments. As someone who collects and makes payments via online services every day, I was intrigued by the extremely low fees for this service. I’ve been playing with it lately, so here are some thoughts.

Review: SmartVault Documentation Management for QuickBooks

I’ve talked about documentation management systems (DMS) and their value to a business in my article on PaperSave Plus. Today I’ll review another DMS system that works with QuickBooks: SmartVault.

This product takes a different approach than PaperSave Plus – it stores your information in an online server rather than in a database on your local computer. In addition, you pay a monthly fee rather than making a one-time purchase. In addition to storing your documents you have the ability to store backups of your company file.

Review: PaperSave Plus Documentation Management for QuickBooks

A Documentation Management System (DMS) is a program that is used to store electronic documents and/or images of paper documents. In this article I’ll talk about PaperSave Plus, a QuickBooks Compatible documentation management system.

If you are working with QuickBooks you may find that you have various documents that you want to associate with transactions. For example, a customer PO to associate with your invoice. A written contract to associate with an estimate. A statement or bill to associate with a check.

Exporting QuickBooks Transactions with Transaction Pro Exporter

QuickBooks uses a “closed” database that you cannot access directly. If you want to extract transaction data, such as invoices or checks, you have to use a third party tool to extract the data (or get the SDK/ programming toolkit and write your own program). Today I’ll review the Transaction Pro Exporter from Baystate Consulting, which is an excellent program for extracting transactions from QuickBooks.

Using Online Backups to save your QuickBooks Data

In my Backing Up QuickBooks Data article I talked about the importance of a good backup plan for your business. Today I’ll talk a bit about one portion of a good plan, using online backups.

When I’m hired to evaluate a business and their QuickBooks procedures one of the first things I look at is how they are making backups of their data. Not just their QuickBooks data, but all important electronic business information. All too often I find that there is no comprehensive backup and recovery plan in place. Some businesses have a plan, but they aren’t being implemented correctly. The most common reason is that backing up data is time consuming, complicated and a major hassle to perform. That is why I like online backups – they are simple to implement and don’t take a lot of effort to run.

Creating QuickBooks Invoices with Adobe Acrobat Pro

One of the intriguing “new features” that Intuit lists for QuickBooks 2009 is the ability to work with “Adobe Acrobat Forms”. This is a way to use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9to create PDF forms that can be used to import invoices, estimates and purchase orders into your QuickBooks company file. Today I’ll give you a quick overview as to how this works.

Review: Keyword Search for QuickBooks

You have a lot of important business information in your QuickBooks company file, and it is very important that you have the ability to search through this information quickly. Today I’m going to talk about a free plug-in product that may be able to help you.

Review: PayPal Payment Request Wizard

Many businesses (particularly those that sell items on the Internet) use PayPal to process payments. If you are using PayPal but aren’t using an integrated web store application, PayPal offers a Payment Request Wizard that integrates with QuickBooks to let you send invoices to your customers with a PayPal payment button. Today I’ll take a look at this program.

Review: Data Transfer Utility

There are times when you want to move information from one QuickBooks company file to another. You might want to merge records from your salesperson’s laptop to your desktop company file. Perhaps you want to set up a new company with just the open records. QuickBooks doesn’t make this an easy chore. Today I’ll discuss an excellent third-party tool that can help you with this task.
