QuickBooks 2011 R8 Has Problems

| August 8, 2011

You can It has only been out for a few weeks, but it looks like the QuickBooks 2011 R8 update has problems. As it stands now, Intuit has removed this from automatic update status. If you haven’t updated to R8, DO NOT. If you HAVE updated, and aren’t seeing problems, cross your fingers. I’ll note that I’m using R8 without any difficulties at all, but then I don’t use all of the features that might have been affected.

See my article in QuickBooks and Beyond for details.

Update: The 2011 R9 update has been released and it fixes the problems in R8. See this article: http://www.sleeter.com/blog/2011/11/quickbooks-2011-r9-released/

I’m using QB Pro2011 and am having some odd problems with the backup. First, the auto backup does not register a date in the panel to the right of the main window. Only the Manual Backup method will update the date. I have checked my backup location and there are current backups there. Secondly, the manual backup will falsely report that the Backup is “Working (Not Responding) yet if you wait long enough – about 1 minute – it will continue without a problem.

Haven’t seen any other odd issues other than that.

Having learnt the hard way to respect the advise from this Forum, I had studiously stayed away from the R8 update. In any case, by the date (Aug 12, 2011) the above post came up, I hadn’t received R8 by auto update. Now I have it for the past 4 days and have been ignoring the request to update. How do I permanently remove the update since no post yet as to its suitability?

Is there any status update on R8 (or will it be R9)?

    Thanks!
