QuickBooks 2017 R10

| May 31, 2018

Intuit has released QuickBooks 2017 R10, a maintenance release that matches the recent QuickBooks 2018 R6 and QuickBooks 2016 R14 updates. Note that these updates probably won’t be released for QuickBooks 2015, since that product is being officially retired today.

This update should be available via automatic updates. You can also go to the QuickBooks Update site to download the patch.

If you are using QuickBooks Payroll, or bank feeds with Capital One, I recommend that you install this update right away. Other users may want to wait a week just to be sure that there aren’t any new issues being introduced. I don’t expect any problems, I’m just cautious when it comes to updates.

Capital One Bank Feeds

If you are using Capital One bank feeds then you will need this update. Capital One has changed the technology on their end of the process, and this requires a change in QuickBooks. You will have to perform a one-time setup to be able to continue using your bank feed.

Other Bank Feed Bug Fixes

In addition to the Capital One update, this release fixes two bank feed problems that some users have seen:

  • This fixes error 194 by ensuring that routing numbers are always 9 digits.
  • It also fixes an issue that caused an intermittent crash while deactivating and resetting an Express Web Connect bank account.

QuickBooks Payroll

This release fixes an issue where employees may receive another employee’s paystub by error, and were able to open it with their password. If you are using QuickBooks Payroll then I recommend that you install this update right away.

In addition, users will be prompted for their Direct Deposit pin as a part of a security enhancement for changing the bank account number of their employees or vendors.

QuickBooks Payments

I’m not sure that I’m thrilled with this kind of nagging, really. All first-time users of QuickBooks Payments who have never sent an e-invoice to their customers will see a reminder to send e-invoices after every 7th invoice that they email. I’ve not seen how this “reminder” has been implemented (as I’ve been using QuickBooks Payments for many years), so I don’t know how intrusive it is.

QuickBooks Installation Errors

This release fixes an issue that caused error 80029c4a to occur when opening QuickBooks after installing a release update.
