QuickBooks 2019 R12 Released

Intuit has released QuickBooks 2019 R12, which fixes a few bugs and makes some other changes.

It is interesting, at the time I’m writing this Intuit has the release notes available, but the update is not available as far as I can tell. I don’t get it when I run the “update” feature in my program. Ah well, maybe we can blame that on Corona virus? In any case, at some point this update should be available via automatic updates, as well as at the QuickBooks Update site. But I can’t test it yet…

The changes that were announced are:

  • If the “Admin” logs in, they will now be required to log in to their “Intuit account”, when creating a new company file or opening an existing one. That is, each time. I’m sure we’ll hear people complaining about that. But if you were being really careful in your setup, you wouldn’t be logging in with an “Admin” account all the time anyway…
  • An “easier and more stable install experience”. Not sure what that is, really. I’m all for stability. Can’t have an unstable experience.
  • Payroll¬†reports and export to XML now will include information from the new W-4.
  • A bug was fixed that showed an error when selecting eCheck as the customer payment method.
  • A bug was fixed that had to do with showing (or not showing?) company file names when QB is launched.
  • A bug was fixed (no, not a “bug”, it was an “issue”) that caused a “QuickBooks has stopped working” error when multiple versions of QuickBooks are launched on the same computer.

If you run into any of these bugs, or if you use QuickBooks payroll, you should get this update whenever you can. If you don’t have those issues, don’t be in a rush.

    This login feature is more than annoying. How do we complain to somebody who will listen? I’m still on the 7-day hold but I jump from client to client to0 often to put up with this. “Tell us who you are.” “Why do I need an intuit account?”

      Vicki, I have three replies: (1) I used to have some influence there, but no longer, sorry. I don’t converse with them directly any more; (2) This is a security kind of change, I believe, and even if I was talking to them, they have never really changed their mind on anything they consider to be “security” related, regardless of the pain it caused, as far as I have seen; (3) For ProAdvisors and accountants in general, at least in the recent past, if you went to QuickBooks Connect, you would be able to find someone at a reasonably high level to talk to, perhaps even an engineer supervisor for desktop (usually for Enterprise), and have a direct conversation. But that won’t be until November (if Covid-19 doesn’t interfere, and I hope it won’t by then). Sorry, best I can do. Also, if thousands of people complain about this in a very specific way through their feedback mechanism so that it shows up all as the same complaint, they will be aware of it (which doesn’t mean it will be changed).
