QuickBooks 2021 R4 Released
Intuit has released QuickBooks 2021 R4. An R4 release generally can be the first update that has bug fixes incorporated for things that were found in the initial public releases, since an R3 release was created before the public release.
This update should be available via automatic updates. You can also go to the QuickBooks Update site to download the patch.
Should you get this update? Well, if you are using QuickBooks 2021 R1, you definitely SHOULD. But, if you are using an older version of QuickBooks, I generally suggest that you wait a bit longer before you jump into the 2021 version. I don’t know of any problems, but this is a very new product and you don’t want to experiment with your company accounting process. Besides, we are getting close to most people’s year-end, why mess around with something that works at this critical time? On the other hand, if you are filing 1099 forms then you will want to get this release. It is so confusing sometimes…
QuickBooks 2021 R4 Bug Fixes
I want to start off with the bug fixes. The list is surprisingly small.
- This release fixes a Permissions issue where a user would be able to create transactions for unpermitted customers in the transaction Batch Enter feature.
- The Open Balance report filter has been fixed, where if you filtered for “>=1” or “=” you would get incorrect results.
- Another issue that was fixed was where vendor groups with a credit balance greater than zero would show incorrect results.
Feature Updates
- 1099 forms: This release adds support for 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC printing and e-filing. There also may be some changes to the QuickBooks SDK (programming interface for add-ons) so that third party applications can support these forms. If you file either of these forms, you need to install this update. If you aren’t familiar with the 1099-NEC Nonemployee Compensation form, see the IRS 1099-NEC page.
- Admin users can now request access for a Secondary Admin (Intuit account) role.
- Payroll User Management/Data Level Permissions:
- You can limit the data level access at roles and user level for selected Employees.
- You can restrict the roles to perform activities (such as view, delete, etc.) on selected Employees
- This update added support for payroll related operations for selected Employees who belong to an Employee Group.
