QuickBooks 2021 R8 Released

| November 11, 2021

Intuit announced the release of QuickBooks 2021 R8 a short while ago, but just got around to announcing what was changed in this release. This update should be available via automatic updates. You can also go to the QuickBooks Update site to download the patch.

For those of you keeping track, there wasn’t a 2021 R7 release for US versions – there was an R7 release just for Canadian versions.

This release doesn’t include any bug fixes, at least not as far as they have announced.

QuickBooks 2021 R8 Management Changes

Two “management” changes this time:

  • QuickBooks company files that are missing company names will be asked to add a name.
  • There will be additional prompts that explain the “value” of having an Intuit Account to use with various features and services.

New Feature

This introduces a feature that will help you notify customers of credit card expiration dates.

Payroll Workforce

There are some changes for QuickBooks Workforce.

What is QuickBooks Workforce? This is a tool that you can use to allow your employees to view and print their pay stubs and W-2’s. It is only available if you have QuickBooks Online Payroll or QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, Basic and Enhanced.

In QuickBooks 2021 R8, Workforce enabled company files have the ability to upload payroll data for the current year and previous last three years.

  • You don’t have to manually update previous payroll data after enabling Workforce.
  • You can make historical pay stubs available to employees.
  • This helps provide info to verification services regarding employee’s employment, income, and Social Security.
